10 Favorite Albums of 2010

So, I’ve done what I thought would be impossible: I’ve picked my 10 favorite albums of the year. I even went a step further, separating them into the top 5 and bottom 5. There’s definitely no way I can say definitively which is my favorite, or my second favorite, or my ninth favorite, so here […]

Favorite Concerts of 2010

With my 2010 concert season over, I reflect on some of my favorite concerts I went to over the past year. It was the best year of music and concerts in my life so far, and I hope to have an even better year in 2011. There were some really great concerts this year, in […]

25 Favorite Songs of the Year

In alphabetical order, here are my 25 favorite songs of the year. Arcade Fire – “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)” (live video) and “We Used to Wait” (video) Two great songs from a pretty overrated album (still a great one though). Cee-Lo Green – “Fuck You” (video) (EXPLICIT) And the winner for Catchiest Song of […]

The Better-Late-than-Never List

This time of year, blogs and magazines churn out best-of lists like it is the sole purpose they get up in the morning. By nature, these lists only cover music that was released in 2010 (and, in some cases, very late 2009). But even a person who listens to as much current music as possible […]

A couple of quick notes: The Strike Anywhere show tonight at The Barbary IS happening. Tomorrow night’s show at The Barbary, featuring The Swellers has been CANCELED, according to R5 Productions’ twitter.

New Year’s Eve Music Guide

There’s a lot going in Philadelphia this New Year’s Eve, including concerts at pretty much every big venue in the city. In my opinion, the best party is the sold out Trombone Shorty show at World Cafe Live, although it’s also one of the most expensive. If you’re looking for a good deal, it’s hard […]

Show of the Week: Friday, December 31, 2010 – Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave @ World Cafe Live – SOLD OUT What better way to end the year getting down to the New Orleans jazz/funk of Trombone Shorty? Tickets were not cheap, ranging from $50 on the cheap to $115 for VIP, but the show […]

Steve Earle playing Philly “Evening With” show for Witness to Innocence

Steve Earle will be performing a very special, intimate solo-acoustic set at Johnny Brenda’s on Sunday, February 27 to benefit the organization Witness to Innocence. The Philadelphia-based organization is composed of and led by exonerated death row inmates who seek to abolish the death penalty, as well as helping in getting just compensation for exonerated […]

Kurt doesn’t have any tour dates scheduled as of yet, but I’m sure he’ll be around soon enough to support the new album, so get […]

Show of the Week Thursday, December 23 – Chris Bruni @ Tin Angel – $10 – 21+ Not so surprisingly, there aren’t very many concerts to get excited about this Christmas week. Review: Justin Jones The Little Fox EP

Before I say anything, I would like to say that the name of Justin Jones‘ EP was not the reason I listened to him, nor is it the reason that I love the EP. (That said, I do love the name. I mean, how could I not?) I listened to Justin Jones because he popped […]
