Monthly Preview: Best of February 2013

After a slow yet decent January slate, the live music schedule for February is looking mighty fine. Let’s start with a shameless plug for our very own show. On Friday, February 15th, we’re excited to present Toy Soldiers with Goodnight, Texas (pictured above) and August John Lutz II (of Levee Drivers). It’s the first “official” Swollen Fox showcase that we’ve put together and we expect it to be a great time, so we hope you can make it. Get your tickets here.

In the meantime, the rest of the month has plenty to get excited for. The very first weekend is packed solid, including shows from Buke & Gase, Trixie Whitley, Kopecky Family Band (with The Eastern Sea), DRGN KING (album release party) and Shovels and Rope. In the middle of the next week, you’ll want to head to the First Unitarian Church for the amazing Kishi Bashi, or perhaps Johnny Brenda’s for always fun Cheers Elephant.

The month features a few marquee events, including two sold out shows for Mumford and Sons (with Ben Howard), Conor Oberst’s Desaparecidos, and a sold out solo performance at Johnny Brenda’s by My Morning Jacket’s Jim James. Beyond that, there are yet even more shows we recommend for your consideration. Check out the full list (and accompanying Spotify playlist) below. Also, check out the XPN Concert Calendar for ticket information and a full list of upcoming shows in the Philly and Central PA areas.

There are also some exciting album releases coming up in the next month, including Frightened Rabbit’s brilliant Pedestrian Verse, Jim James’ solo debut, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper’s new album that is bound to turn heads, a new Shout Out Louds effort, and more. Check out our list of the ten best February album releases below.
