Here’s the album releases I’m paying attention to this week. I’ve already heard the new Ra Ra Riot album, and all I say is that it’s good, but not as good as The Rhumb Line. Land of Talk’s sophomore album, on the other hand, definitely bests their debut full-length and I highly recommend listening to it.
- Land of Talk – Cloak and Cipher – Their second full-length album, following 2008’s Some Are Lakes. You can stream the album at The National Post (with commentary on each song from lead singer Liz Powell). Land of Talk will play at Johnny Brenda’s on November 5. Tickets are $12.
- Ra Ra Riot – The Orchard – Their sophomore effort after 2008’s The Rhumb Line rocked the indie world. You can stream the entire album at NPR or at Spinner. If you haven’t heard the new single, “Boy,” you really, really should. Ra Ra Riot come to town at the Trocadero on October 2. Tickets are $16.
- !!! – Strange Weather, Isn’t It? – This is !!!’s fourth studio album. They play the Electric Factory on October 2, with Les Savy Fav opening the show. Tickets are $18.
- Magic Kids – Memphis – The debut album from Magic Kids is out today. You can stream the album at Fader. No dates coming up in Philly.
Also note that the new Eels album Tomorrow Morning comes out today on CD. It was released on vinyl last week.
