Bloktoberfest is thrilled to announce that The Walkmen will perform as the headlining act at this year’s festival on Saturday, October 15th. The celebrated indie rock band, several of whose members live in Philadelphia, has cultivated critical praise and a devoted fan following with each new album and live show. Their latest release, Lisbon, has been hailed by the BBC as “a collation and culmination of their finest work in years” and honored with a Best New Music designation from notoriously tough-to-please online music journal Pitchfork, the third album of theirs to receive such a distinction.
Other acts scheduled to perform throughout the day across the festival’s three stages include Cozy Galaxies, Kuf Knotz, Toy Soldiers, Suzie Brown, New Pony, Reckless Amateurs, Paper Monster, Parsnip Revolt, and Andy Dalzell, with additional acts still to be announced.
Bloktoberfest, an all-ages, free-to-attend celebration of beer, food, music, and Philly will be returning for its third year on Saturday, October 15th, 2011, from noon to 8pm, taking over three blocks of South Street between Broad Street and 17th Street. In partnership with the South of South Neighborhood Association, South Street West Business Association, and Bella Vista Beer Distributors, Bloktoberfest will once again showcase a wide selection of beer by craft breweries from around the country, food from neighborhood vendors and food trucks, and multiple stages of live music featuring nationally recognized and emerging local acts. The event is not for profit, with beer proceeds directed back into a variety of education initiatives tied to area schools and students.

This was one of my favorite events of the year in 2010, and this year is going to bigger and better than ever. The music lineup is once again top-notch and new efforts to minimize waiting lines for beer will allow you to see more of that great music. The best part is: the festival is free-to-attend and all of the proceeds from beer sales (beer passes are on sale now) gets donated back to the community.
