Watch Kishi Bashi cover Beirut’s “A Sunday Smile”

Kishi Bashi is a very talented violinist, as we witnessed at the First Unitarian Church a couple of weeks ago, but when he decided to tackle Beirut’s “A Sunday Smile” he turned the instrumentation over to a string quartet. Lucky for us, K Ishibashi has a great voice, too. Watch a live studio performance of the cover, directed and produced by Tony Verderosa, below (via NPR.org.)

The cover will appear on a new 7-inch box set that Kishi Bashi will soon release, for which he also covers Talking Heads’ “This Must be the Place (Naive Melody)” and E.L.O.’s “Prologue/Twilight.”

In related news, Kishi Bashi was one of the many names on the Firefly Music Festival lineup that was announced earlier this morning. He joins a lineup headed by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Petty and Vampire Weekend. Check out the full lineup here.
