Monday, February 4 – The Music Tapes (The Traveling Imaginary) @ First Unitarian Church – 7:30/SOLD OUT & 10:15/$15 – Tickets
Julian Koster (of Elephant 6) brings his experimental indie project, The Music Tapes, to the Church basement tonight. For this tour, dubbed The Traveling Imaginary, Koster and company will pitch a circus tent inside the venue and host an evening of “songs, stories, games, movies, magic, amusements, and more,” according to a press release. The tour is in support of their latest LP, Mary’s Voice, so expect to hear some of that, too. Prepare yourself by streaming the album here.
UPDATE: These shows have been postponed. New dates will be announced “asap.”
Tuesday, February 5 – Jeff Mangum @ DuPont Theatre – 8:00/SOLD OUT – Info
I would explain why you should go to this show, but it is sold out, so there isn’t much point.
Wednesday, February 6 – Cheers Elephant @ Johnny Brenda’s – 9:00/$10/21+ – Tickets
Still riding the wave of last year’s excellent LP, Like Wind Blows Fire, Cheers Elephant will take their infectiously fun live show to Johnny Brenda’s on Wednesday night. If you’re unfamiliar with it, read past reviews here and here. And if you haven’t heard the new album, stream that here.
Also playing this week: Memory Tapes (2/5 @ JB’s), Rufus Wainwright (2/6 @ McCarter Theatre), Wakey!Wakey! (2/7 @ World Cafe Live), and more. Check out the XPN Concert Calendar for a full listing.
