Friday – OCD: Moosh & Twist @ Union Transfer – 8:00/$10 – Tickets
If you are less of a rock n’ roll fan and more of a hip-hop fan, we won’t take it personally if you don’t come to our showcase tonight and decide to go see OCD: Moosh & Twist tonight at Union Transfer instead. This young hip-hop group is conquering Philly one huge show at a time, having played at the TLA and the Roots Picnic last year. Check out their latest song and video, “This High,” here.
Saturday – The Spinto Band w/ Alec Ounsworth @ Johnny Brenda’s – 9:15/$12/21+ – Tickets
Wilmington’s Spinto Band celebrate the release of their new album Cool Cocoon tomorrow night with what will surely be a packed show at Johnny Brenda’s. It’s their second album in under a year, following up 2012’s Shy Pursuit and earning a 7.6 from Pitchfork. Not bad for an indie band putting out music on their own label.
Saturday & Sunday – Mumford and Sons w/ Ben Howard @ Susquehanna Bank Center – 8:00/SOLD OUT
You all know about Mumford and Sons by know. You probably even know that they just won the Grammy for Album of the Year. You may even be just as sick as hearing about them as I am. But, if you are a fan and happen to be going to either of these shows, I want to make sure you know to get there early. English singer-songwriter Ben Howard is opening both shows behind his wonderful debut LP Every Kingdom and you should not miss his set. Howard played a riveting show at Union Transfer back in September, a review of which you can read here.
Sunday – Tri State Indie Awards @ World Cafe Live – 6:00/$10-$20 – Tickets
This technically isn’t a concert, but this annual awards show will include live performances from some great local bands, including Levee Drivers, New Sweden, and Nicos Gun. Ron Gallo of Toy Soldiers will host the show, with Dirk Quinn Band holding down the stage as house band. Get all the relevant information you need here.
Go check out the XPN Concert Calendar to see a full list of this weekend’s shows and beyond.
