Friday, December 7
New York City’s Guards will play at Kung Fu Necktie tonight. The band is getting ready to release their debut album, In Guards We Trust, in February and have built the anticipation with raved-about live shows, including lots of attention at CMJ. TEEN and Black Brick will open tonight’s show. — 7:30/$10/21+

Pittsburgh’s Black Moth Super Rainbow stop in Philly today for a show at Union Transfer in support of their new album Cobra Juicy. It’s the experimental band’s fifth LP. Casket Girls and Creepoid will open the show. — 8:30/$15

Saturday, December 8
Philly’s own Work Drugs will celebrate the release of their new album, Delta, on Saturday night at Ortlieb’s Lounge. Joining them will be another great local band called Shark Tape. They just released a new song (stream here) that follows the June release of their second EP. — 9:00/$10/21+

Canadian rock duo Japandroids will play at Union Transfer tomorrow in support of their critically-acclaimed sophomore LP, Celebration Rock. It’s an album that’s already popped up on some top albums of the year list, and is sure to show up on a few more before the year ends. Brooklyn’s DIIV will open. — 8:30/$16

Sunday, December 9
Unfold Ordinary Mind is a new quintet led by clarinetist and composer Ben Goldberg, featuring Ellery Eskelin, Rob Sudduth, Ches Smith, and Nels Cline. You make recognize that last name as the current guitarist for Wilco. Ars Nova Workshop will present the Philadelphia debut of the group at Johnny Brenda’s. — 8:30/$15/21+
