Today poses a difficult decision between two very unique and expected-to-be-awesome concerts. Over at World Cafe Live, 20 of Philly’s best bands will gather to play Beck’s new sheet music-only album Song Reader. Among the bands that will be interpreting a song from the book: Levee Drivers, Modern Inventors, The Districts, Sean Hoots, Toy Soldiers, Ali Wadsworth, The Lawsuits, and New Sweden. I don’t even have to finish that list for you to know it’s a great lineup. Tickets are $12 and available here.
The competing show is over at PhilaMOCA as they begin anew with their Tuesday Tune-Out series. This month WXPN’s The Key is the curator of the weekly music-and-film event, and their opening night is quite impressive. After short opening sets by Jonathan Pfeffer (Capillary Action) and Michael Johnson (Ape School), Eric Slick (drummer for Dr. Dog, Norwegian Arms) will perform an improvisatory set to Primal Essence, a short film he’s prepared specifically for the event. Admission is a $5 donation at the door; more information is here.
